What a Queensland Plumbing Licence Covers

Queensland requires anyone doing plumbing and drainage work to hold an occupational licence, and any business taking the job on to hold a contractor licence as well. The QBCC issues both.

An occupational licence is proof of trade skill. A contractor licence is proof that the business behind the job can run it properly, with the finances and training that demands.

The licence classes behind our work are:

  1. Plumber's licence

covers plumbing work, with a few specialist jobs set aside for extra endorsements.

  2. Drainer's licence

covers drainage below ground level, minus the same kind of endorsed specialties.

  3. Gas work licence

Queensland reserves gas work for licensed gasfitters, covering every job on a fuel gas system from fitting through to certifying. Ask to sight the licence before we start.

Regulated plumbing and drainage work falls into three buckets: permit work, notifiable work and minor work. A licensee has to carry out every one of them. Our gas work is covered on the Gas Fitter in Ascot page.

How Plumbing Work Is Regulated in Queensland

Two bodies do the checking: the QBCC handles licences and the records of notifiable jobs, and your local council grants permits and inspects. Both have a role in the paperwork you end up holding:

  1. Form 4

notifiable work earns one of these, and the owner or whoever booked the plumber gets a copy. Missing yours? The QBCC can provide it.

  2. Gas system compliance certificate

fresh gas work, whether a new setup or an alteration, ends with this certificate handed to you straight away. The gasfitter also lodges a copy with the network operator within 5 days where the system is fed by a network.

The QBCC's online registers confirm a plumber's licence, and searching your address shows any Form 4 recorded against the property. You're also entitled to ask the council to look over notifiable work whenever you like.

How a Booking Runs From Call to Paperwork

  1. 1

    Call or message us

Ring (07) 3523 6417 or use the form and describe what's going on in Ascot. A few details up front mean the right gear comes on the first trip.

  2. 2

    We diagnose on site

We trace the fault at the fixture and along the pipe run, then talk through what we find. Big hill blocks with long earthenware drains often mean the diagnosis covers more ground than the bathroom suggests.

  3. 3

    Fixed quote, then the work

We give you a fixed quote before any work starts. It's flat-rate pricing with no hidden fees, and we only start once you approve it.

  4. 4

    Settle up your way

Card and EFTPOS payment on site when the job's finished, or Fix now, pay later if that suits you better. Testing and paperwork close the job: we confirm the work holds, then hand over whatever the job earned, Form 4 or gas certificate included.
